Staff Platform Engineer

OpenSea is building the gateway to the onchain economy — a world of communities, assets & creative expression enabled by native digital ownership. They're assembling an AI-native platform engineering team to build technical foundations that power rapid, reliable product development.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve platform services, infrastructure, and internal tooling.
• Own complex technical systems from definition through implementation.
• Implement and improve observability, monitoring, and alerting.
• Maintain and improve AI skills & tools to make systems more accessible and introspectable.
• Expand CI coverage to improve correctness and AI verifiability.
• Partner with product teams to accelerate build and deployment of critical products.
• Build and ship reliable software leveraging AI and modern development tools.

Requirements

• 7+ years building large-scale backend or platform systems.
• Strong fluency in JVM languages such as Kotlin or Java.
• Experience designing and operating distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
• Deep understanding of platform engineering, developer tooling, CI/CD, and observability.
• Proven ability to own ambiguous technical problems and deliver scalable solutions.
• Comfortable making independent decisions balancing reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
• Experience leveraging AI tools and workflows to improve engineering quality and team effectiveness.
